Hello. The film's opening credits read:

"Laurence Olivier
Presents
Richard III
by
William Shakespeare"

"With some interpolations
by
David Garrick  Colley Cibber
etc."

In the current profile I'm looking at (and it seems many other profiles for this film), Garrick and Cibber are credited as screenwriters. Research shows that David Garrick and Colley Cibber were born in 1717 and 1671, respectively. So it doesn't look like they wrote the screenplay for this film. It seems both gentlemen did some rewriting and reshuffling of Shakespeare in their time and Olivier used some of their work in his film. Should these gentlemen be credited at all? If so, as writers, screenwriters, or original material by?

Definitely not screenwriter LOL

I can see an argument for OMB, but personally my initial reaction is to leave them out.

Shakespeare gets OMB.
"Interpolations" gets none, because by definition those only mean "inserted passages" this boils down to "Additional Writing", which we do not trace.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

I submitted my contribution to omit Garrick and Cibber.

The reason I brought this up here was because there's another Colley Cibber in the database so this Colley Cibber would require a BY if this were deemed a valid writing credit (this is his only credit). David Garrick already has a BY in the database but at least he has another title to his name. It also seemed a bit silly to credit a "screenwriter" with a 1671 birth year.
