Hi

I had a contribution declined today for a "BoxSet". I would really like to know why - How can I find out?

The situation is that my contribution was updating an existing entry for a DVD set containing 3 DVDs in a plastic case (not a box as such). I realise the rules say that this is a BoxSet & so the entry should not include any details of the individual movies - cast, crew etc separated by "dividers". The original submitter voted "no" to my update so maybe that is why it was rejected.

However, my counter argument is that there are many entries in the database which do include individual movie details (Gilmore Girls Season Packs for example) and I have had many of my own contributions approved recently where I included the extra details.

Why would some be approved and others not?
Why is this not consistent?
Is there a redress option?
Can the contribution rules be changed to say "you can include the extra details if you want"?

I am not really upset about this of course (not really a big deal) but am confused and would appreciate talking to someone about it please.

Thanks

My Gilmore Girls example above was not a good one since it is a TV set which does allow individual entries for each episode etc unlike box sets of movies. That does not negate the fact that there are many DVD "box sets" in the database where the contributor has added cast, crew etc from each sub-movie. These have all been approved.

Thanks again

3 movies on separate discs means that the child profiles for each disc must contain the cast & crew details for each film, and the parent profile should not contain this information.

You are correct that there are many movie sets that have information of this nature in the parent profile.  All of them should have this information removed (unless multiple movies on single discs) and placed only in the child profiles.  Many of these are very old profiles that were brought in before current rules and upgraded features were available.  Sometimes more recent profiles get approved, but these are all mistakes by screeners (who are human) and should be updated to remove this information from the parent profile.  I think screeners may miss profiles that are in violation of the rules when these profiles don't get any votes, which may account for previous contributions like this being approved.

Of course, for television programs, the parent profile should include the cast & crew information, as the child profiles are optional.

Thankyou very much for the detailed & clear response.

I will not do this in future (as per the rules).

All good!

I get rid of this data when I notice such data in my own collection, but would never bother to contribute to correct it just because the of same results. I feel I don't have that long to live.

There seems to be many people who don't use or like box sets, nobody compels them to use them as such they probably. just ignore the rules for box sets.

download and checked it out. It does seem to be set up correctly, only thing I see right off is cover scans for the child profiles, parent profile cover unless they have a individual cover for each disc. and media company for 2 of the 3 child profiles.
