| Posted: | | | | A few Israeli distributors used unusually short UPCs for quite some time. One of this titles was 'The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring: Collector's Gift Set', UPC number: 8777902 I had no problem overcoming this issue previously by entering a new Disc ID instead, But I don't know what to do in this case. Until now the DVD was contributed using a British UPC (with Israeli localization). This was done because the local UPC was uknown (no UPC was printed on the box believe it or not) ... until now that is.
Should I use the first DVD ID or what? The rules are not clear in that specific case.

| Posted: | | | | As I recall, someone had a similarly problem over at IVS forums a while back, and it involved adding a bunch of zeros at the beginning of the UPC, or something there about. IVS Forum references: Unusual short (but legal) UPC'sUMBRELLA ENTERTAINMENTHope it helps! Note, as for contributing these... Well I don't know. |

| Posted: | | | | I know from working in retail YEARS ago, that some products had a small 8 digit UPC code on them, ex. a can of Coke. When these items were scanned, the computer would convert those UPCs into a 12 digit UPC placing 0's somewhere in the middle of the other numbers. I don't remember where the 0's went though. | | | Last edited: by Boykin |

| Posted: | | | | If you can scan the back cover at sufficient resulotion for my bar code scanner to scan the UPC and email it to me, I will see if it decodes into a longer UPC. |

These are called UPC-E/EAN-8 as opposed to our regular ones that are called UPC-A/EAN-13. I don't remember the exact formula (I can check my notes if someone is interested) but you're right, scanning them will convert them back to 12/13 digits as long as your scanner supports and is configured for UPC-E/EAN-8 expansion. I have numerous barcode scanners and verifiers at work, if indeed liorb22 can give us a god quality scan of the barcode I can check what the exact format/content is. | | | My 4x4 Club: Club FJ Cruiser Quebec DVDP Français: Forum DVD Profiler Français DVDCOL:DVD Collectors Online Video: LG RU-42PX10 Audio: Sony DreamSystem DAVFX100W |

The outer box has no UPC anywhere. However, the Digipak inside has a different UPC number on it - 8778534. I was told by an official representative of the distribution company that while the Digipak itself was marked with a specific UPC, The DVD Gift Set wasn't as lucky. Who knows why... But after all I was quite lucky that he was able to look for the UPC in their computers. Too bad it couldn't have helped after all, Because DVDP 3.1 refused to accept such a short UPC. I'll have no choice but to contribute it using the first disc ID. | | | October 12th, 1985. Tonight, a comedian died in New York. | | | Last edited: by liorb22 |
