Copied from the old IVS forum.  This Collection appears to be completed as no new releases have occurred since 7/11/06.  This is simply a reference for those who might be interested in what is in this collection.

As with the Fox Film Noir topic that I just started, finding information about this collection is challenging at best.  Although they have a website here, it is never up-to-date.

I'd like to keep an up-to-date list of the films in this collection in this opening post.  As new releases are announced, I'll update the list here.

Although this may be controversial, I am not going to list the last three films that are listed on their website as being part of this collection, because I don't think they are.  They are called "Cinema Classics" and do not have the distinctive white covers.  In fact they do not have the volume numbers on the spine either.

I was beginning to think that this collection was being terminated, but I see where "The Black Swan" is being released on July 11th, so I have to assume that it's still alive.

In addition to the individual volumes listed below, there is also a release called "Fox Studio Classics: The "Best Picture Collection" containing the four films in this collection that won "Best Picture" Academy Awards:  'Sunrise', 'All About Eve', 'How Green Was My Valley' and 'Gentlemen's Agreement'.

'Sunrise' was also made available through an offer from Fox where you could send in a form with proof of purchase of three of their other Studio Classics, and Fox would send 'Sunrise' to you just for the shipping cost.  At least in the U.S., I do not believe 'Sunrise' was ever available through the normal retail channels, except as part of the "Best Picture Collection".  It was not assigned a Volume number, but is labeled 'Limited Edition' instead.

Vol.    Title                                        Release

Just in case there is anyone getting confused, I think it is worth mentioning that there is a Region 2 Fox Studios Classic collection, that seems to bear little resemblance to your list! I can't begin to suggest the titles, or state of releases, as I only have four.

07    The Grapes of Wrath
18    The Undefeated
19    Von Ryan's Express
42    Bandolero!

Yup, you're quite correct, Jon.  This is the Region 1 collection.  The Region 2 collection is much larger, includes many of what are in the Region 1 Fox War Classics, some other completely different titles and is missing some that are in the Region 1 set.

This link gives you lots of detail comparing the two collections:

Just consider the other posts as room for future expansion.

Thanks for moving these over, Hal.

Just to complicate Region 2 further, 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' and 'All About Eve' at least are available in Fox's Cinema Reserve range; prestige, steelbook editions.

Do these people know what they are doing? It may be just a marketing fad to them, but to us clinically obsessed collectors, it's torture!

The three titles that you listed are actually not part of the Fox Studio Classics Collection, and I cannot figure out why they ever listed them on the site.  They are actually part of a collection called "Fox Cinema Classics", and were released on January 10, 2006.  As you can see, they do not look anything like the previously released DVDs, and they have no spine numbers.

Black Swan on the other hand, was released July 11, 2006.  Check out the first post in this thread.

Well, now that I'm moving to HD, I'm trying to avoid as much DVD purchasing as possible.  But I just couldn't leave my collection unfinished.  So I'm happy to report that I got In Old Chicago and The River's Edge today to finally finish off my Fox Studio Classics collection.  I now own all 41 (Sunrise plus the other 40).  And I only have 6 more to watch.
