Hey guys and gals! Long time no chat.

According to my user profile, my last visit was Saturday, September 30, 2017, but I think that I made only one post and it has likely been two years and a few months since I made two posts close together. Why did I leave? I don't really chat online anymore: have never done any social media, no messaging anymore, and very little forum posting. Boring, huh? I loved this place; I just slipped away.

In June of last year my primary drive kicked the bucket. Reinstalling all of my software, there were several programs that I skipped over based on my lack of using them, and Profiler was one of them. But right before I was gone, I knew that v4.0 was in testing stages.

I actually have not collected a single DVD since mid-2016, and it was not even significant enough to update my online database. I am more into downloading and saving my media, with all of it taking up no more space than a few hard drives. My primary reason for liking DVDs was not about having a physical copy in my hand (which is still nice, though); it was always for the special features, but I have slowly fallen out of favor with that being the only reason to collect since I usually only watch them once. I just don't fo that much anymore.

But looking through one of my drives, I ran across my database files and decided I would give DVD Profiler a whirl again. I loaded my databases, but I am a little scared to update them because I used to check every change, and with as many changes as I know are pending after all of this time, I fear I will die of starvation before I am finished!

I am otherwise doing well. I'm healthy and life hasn't thrown me too many curve balls recently.

So anyway, time for all of the typical questions:
- How is everybody?
- Did you miss me or even know that I was gone?
- Who all are still around from my early days, and who else has faded away?
- What, if anything, is news that I have missed?
- How's the database?
- Who here has stopped collecting but still hangs around just because?
- [insert other questions here]

I hope that you al have been doing well.

Welcome back

Seems the database is doing pretty ok, still some of the old members active, only one that seems to have vanished is Ken.

4.0 works pretty good, I am still collecting , but only Blu-ray and 4K.

cheers
Donnie

Hello, I think I remember some interesting discussions with you. Anyway, glad you stopped by for a shout out. I still collect - all forms - physical and streaming. Still working on plugins. Just older and slower. Reasonably healthy, but age-related factors are taking their inevitable toll.

I will never get to the end of my plugins features updates list and will never revisit or even visit literally thousands of discs, videos and audio files in my collection.

But I can't complain. I can only imagine what could have befallen Ken, and what a couple of the members (even ones we loved to hate) are known to have suffered.

Here is a piece of history, in case we have any "millennials" with us that don't recognize your reference. This live performance has a variation on the lyrics starting around 5:04.

Thanks for your support.

I'm not good at remembering names but I recognize your avatar.

Yep, still around. Probably the only forum left from the 90s that I still visit (or still exists, after social media killed the Internet. Most of it is crap now.)

I don't collect as much as I used to for lack of time and interest, but I have started buying a few 4K titles. But only movies I didn't previously own on blu-ray. Blu-rays are "good enough" but some DVDs might be worth an upgrade.

iPatsa, I have not, nor will I ever if I can help it, be a part of social media. I remember when people used to ask you for your e-mail address. Now they want your Facebook page. That feels so impersonal to me.  I have a dummy Facebook page created to cover other sites that no longer let you join using an e-mail address but instead tell you to sign in using Facebook. I have been reading reports recently that many of the younger generation are actually beginning to uninstall the Facebook app from their phones, realizing how much it has consumed their lives... even if it means moving on to some other form of tamer media.

Hey mediadogg, yea we had a few discussions here and there when I was designing a plugin (that I never finished) and a more efficient way of handing HTML window data across all profiles by calling it from a single text file. I was a part of many discussions, talked to and got to know many members fairly well, but now I have become an outsider having been away for so long. (I wish that the system did not hide "Find Posts" that are one year old. I am interested in knowing just how long it has been since I was a daily poster.)

It feels strange being here and feeling it is so quiet compared to what I remember. I remember when I could not keep up with reading every post and was such a heavy poster myself for about 5 years both here and the DVD Collectors forum. I was also a massive poster on a game design website and its off topic forum (8,000 posts over about 6 years), but that entire forum is now locked away, archived, and a new one took its place. It's like coming back to an old home with empty rooms.

As for Ken, for the past several years he always took extended posting breaks after releasing a new version, though he usually waited until v#.1 was released with bug fixes. He updated his online collection in August 2018, so he is obviously still around in some regard.

I am glad to know that the database is still here, continuing to be updated. At a time when everyone that I know now uses Netflix and Amazon, It is somehow pleasing to know ther are many out there who still appreciate physical media.

Actually I use DVDP to catalog my streaming media and hard drive movies and videos as well. My plugins help do that, and I have more updates coming ...

Greetings! I've also taken the route of storing my media on my hard drive so I don't have to touch a disc. If you'd like to know more about the solution I use, feel free to PM me.
